BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Iraq says its military has destroyed two U.S. or British tanks and nine armoured personnel carriers over the past 24 hours.

Iraqi forces also shot down five unmanned drone reconnaissance planes and fired 31 surface-to-surface missiles against U.S. and British positions across Iraq, the military said in a brief statement on Sunday.

It added that it carried out a strike against the Ali al-Salem air base west of Kuwait City. There were no U.S. reports of any attack on the base.

Earlier on Sunday, Iraq said it had shot down two U.S. helicopters, killing at least two crew. The Pentagon said it had no reports of missing aircraft.
